Whether its for home, school, picnic, vacation trip etc, Trail mix is a super easy and versatile snack for kids that they can carry around all year round.
Leave an airtight container of this around in your house as a go-to healthy snack that the kids can help themselves to when you cant drop whatever you're doing to cook something . Trail mix is versatile because you can literally include anything you want in it and make it as sweet or savoury as you desire. If using for school or in young children, omit the nuts. Here is a basic mix i prepared recently with what I had in the pantry...
Trail Mix
- 1 cup Cheerios
- 1 cup Chocolate pillows (generic brand)
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup sunflower/pumpkin seeds
- 1/2 cup fish shaped salty crackers
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and store in an airtight container
Other ingredients you could add:
- Smarties
- Nuts: walnuts, almonds, cranberries
- Chocolate chips
- Dried bananas
- Mini marshmallows
- Mini biscuits
- Other dried berries
- Pretzels / pretzel sticks
- Yoghurt covered fruit
- Coconut flakes
